On Thursday, I had the fabulous opportunity to attend the Essence Magazine #EssenceMoms Mommy Meet Up hosted by Chicbusymom. I am so thankful to the uber-fabulous Candace (ChicBusyMom) for inviting me to enjoy a special mom’s day out to relax and chat at the Essence Magazine offices in Manhattan. It was AMAZING!
Many of the women at the Mommy Meetup not only blogged about motherhood but fitness, fashion, education, technology, relationships…it was quite a dynamic group of women! We talked candidly about such topics as balancing career/motherhood/life, keeping the fizzle in our relationships with our partners, and following our passions. We also shared our celebrity mom influences–for me it’s Soledad O’Brien. It was great to see my sistafriends Nellie (Brooklyn Active Mama) and Cassandre (Losing In The City) as well as meet all of the other incredible mothers that I have been following online for years!
It was amazing to be surrounded by such beautiful women of color who are doing it all from motherhood, career, and following their passions. Their love of life and what’s to come in the future was refreshing! There was such an incredible feeling of SISTERHOOD in the room. It was truly a no-judgement zone as we shared personal stories and advice. It was good to not feel alone with Mommy Guilt issues!
Thank you to Svedka Vodka for the amazing cocktails. Our bartender @JasonLitrell made some “mean” cocktails. He even tweeted this later so you know a lot of knowledge was dropped at the Meet Up!
I sipped on the Cuz I Said So! and Who’s Your Daddy? cocktails–so YUMMY! I will be making these for my next get together!
Also we lit Instagram on fi-yah with our #EssenceMoms pictures. Here are two posts from Essence Magazine’s instagram as well as two stunning photographs from the Essence Magazine lobby for your visual enjoyment. These models are WERK-ing it. SWOON!
As if the afternoon wasn’t awesome enough, Essence gifted us with amazing giftbags. I was overjoyed to see this Baubles by Meg (found on Etsy.com) Mommy bracelet! At the end of the day, all I do is for my sons!
Again, I want to thank Essence Magazine and Candace (ChicBusyMom) for a beautiful afternoon. I LOVE events like this that are promoting womanhood, sisterhood, and motherhood—quite the trifecta!
