It is such an exciting time of the year! I love watching the Olympics and discovering inspirational stories from the athletes that make the Olympics so inspiring and fun to watch. Ted Ligety is an inspiration to ALL and his story is motivational, inspiring, and worth sharing!
Ted Ligety began ski racing in 1995 but had a slow start.
“I got beat pretty badly in most of my races as kid,” says Ligety.
But Ted loved skiing too much to quit. He studied the faster kids, trained year-round and fine-tuned his technique. After over a decade of practice, Ted’s perserverance finally paid off when he won Gold for the U.S. at the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games. However his determination was tested yet again when he came in 9th in the Giant Slalom at the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. Just three years and countless runs later, Ted became the first man in 45 years to win three Gold medals at the Ski Racing World Championships in Austria. Now with Sochi on the horizon, Ted could seal his legacy as the best Giant Slalom Skier in the world! Skiing has been than just a sport to Ted as it pushes himself to his utmost potential.
Skiing sparked his unstoppable work ethic. Now U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Ted Ligety is teaming up with Citi to help kid in urban areas to try the sport he loves. Youth Enrichment Services to help pay for urban youth to get outdoors where they’ll learn how to ski and snowboard and, in turn, build self-confidence and gain invaluable life skills.
In this video, U.S. Olympian Ted Ligety discusses the thrill of alpine skiing, and why he is supporting Youth Enrichment Services as part of Citi’s Every Step of the Way Program.
I loved sharing Ted Ligety’s inspirational story with my sons who love ski racing. The lessons Ted learned as a child and the amazing way he is giving back makes him a true inspiration.
