As I train for my first 10K (yes, the self-proclaimed “non-runner” is running and NOT while being chased), I am always on the look out for ways to make my training safer and more effective. When I was approached to be one of the first to try out the new Mizuno Wave Rider 18 running shoes, I was excited to try out my first pair of Mizunos and see if they would help in my training!
Touted as the runner’s favorite shoe that hits the “sweet spot” for a variety of reasons, the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 is a neutral shoe and allows for a natural foot motion. I have never wore a pair of Mizunos but had heard positive things about the running shoes like from my s-hero Abby, who runs like it’s her JOB. On the Get Fit Diva Facebook page, she gushed “I love Mizunos! They make lightweight shoes even for my collapsed arch, flat, overpronating, stability, motion control needing foot!”
So, what’s so great and different about the new Mizuno Wave Rider 18? I turned to their website to get the skinny.
- An ideal heel fit and secure midfoot embrace make this lightweight trainer feel like a part of your foot.
- The parallel Wave in the heel, lightweight U4ic midsole and optimal amount of forefoot flexibility all work together to make every stride smooth and flowing.
- Refined toe-spring delivers a smooth, effortless toe-off
- Upgraded premium sock liner provides more rebound and resiliency at every foot strike
- New outsole design with added durability and shock attenuation
With all these bells and whistles and improvements, I decided to take the Wave Rider 18 running shoes out for a run…literally.
Need to work on my speed but proud that I can run 25 minutes straight w/o stopping after a personal training session (arm + core day). 5 minute warmup – 25 minute #jog – 5 minute cooldown. #run #fitfluential #getfitdiva #fitness #fitmom #weightwatchers #ww #10k #bgr #snatchitback #fitfam
I love that the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 are flashy AND fun! These are a fashionable shoe and I loved the black/green (Florida Keys) color scheme.
The first time I wore the running shoes to the gym my personal trainer immediately noticed my kicks. The show-stopping element of the Mizuno Wave Rider 18 is definitely the fade-away/ombre effect. Coupled with a great pair of compression socks and I felt like a million dollar bill. My only concern: I wish the laces were a bit longer so I can double knot. It was still manageable
The first time I wore the Wave Rider 18 running shoes was running outside at the park on a paved route. I definitely felt how resilient and responsive the shoes were to my strides. The Wave Rider 18 offers a smooth ride. At no moment in time did I think I was going to blister or experienced a foot cramp as I have had happen with other running shoes. There is just enough cushioning without feeling too pillowy. (Note: You can remove the insole.) I like to feel a bit of the traction when I run outdoors. The running shoes were also lightweight. For me, they were a great balance and fit my needs.
In the Wave Rider 18 running shoes, I felt supported and comfortable. I can wear them when I’m training at the gym so I don’t have to pack two pairs of shoes for my run afterwards.
The Wave Rider 18 are overall a great pair of shoes. I recommend Mizuno Wave Rider 18 running shoes for runners that are looking for an attractive, functional neutral running shoes that will support you for the long haul. For me, it was the perfect balance of fit and performance and I felt powerful throughout my run. This “non-runner” that runs was thoroughly impressed and I plan on wearing these on my next two training runs so check back as I give you more of the REAL skinny on these running shoes.
