After an incredible night of ushering the New Year with my amazing family and friends (wow, what a year!), I have a few seconds to reflect and list a few of my health and fitness goals for 2015. Yes, I also may be skirting from doing massive clean-up of last night/this morning’s festivities while also delaying getting ready for my in-laws annual New Year party! This post was inspired by my sisterfriend Nellie at Brooklyn Active Mama, who pretty much rocks 24/7 and is one of my fitness s-heroes. I’m sure she and everyone participating will keep me accountable for #FitList15!

1. Focus on satisfying my spiritual hunger.
For many years my health and wellness journey had been about chasing a certain number and size and then (and only then) I would be happy. Boy was I wrong! This is why I re-branded GET FIT DIVA to be for those trying to be more active (fitness at any and all sizes), move more, practice conscious eating and moderation, finding fabulous, and living balanced in all facets in my life–being a mom, wife, career woman, and also pursuing my passions.
This would be perfect for my pursuits so I might just buy it!
2 Amp up for Half-marathon running
Last year, I sort of fell into running. I ran two big races (Runner’s World and the Trenton Half and 10K) and then I kinda lost my mojo because December was hectic. I did get a few runs in (read 4). But now with my next big race in April, I need to hunker down, train, and finish well and without injury. I am so excited to have my local Black Girls Run chapter for encouragement and friendship. I also plan on doing some 5k and 10K sporadically through the year. Running won’t be the do-all and end-all for my fitness.

3. Write and becoming a published author
There once was a woman that wanted to be a published author. She hemmed and hawed and made every excuse NOT to write her book. She even had an old college professor contact her on Facebook asking her when she was going to write her book. After so many gentle nudges and kicks in the bum, she decided to hunker down in her office and write every day. It will be about my journey but so much more. I’ve learned that I have inspired others and there are so many that inspire me daily. I want to give back and I hope my writing does that and more.
4. Work on my fashion endeavors
More to come on this but I am excited to launch something AWESOME this year for my GET FIT DIVAs! Think chic and comfort!
5. Try new and different workouts to fight off boredom
I get bored quickly. I need social environments when I work out. Perhaps that is why running solo is hard for me because I get trapped in my head and that’s not the best place to reside for long periods of time-LOL! I want to go back to my weekly hot yoga sessions. I even have pre-paid sessions! I also want return to Crossfit. I’m trying to get my husband on board and my local box also has Kids Crossfit and I think both my boys would benefit from this training in addition to playing LAX and basketball this winter/spring. I also scored an awesome Black Friday deal of ten sessions at a gym I wanted to try for some time (Sweat Like A Girl). With classes like Aerial Silks, Fight Club, and Pole Dancing, I don’t think I will bored AT ALL I also want to re-commit to Zumba and go back to one of my loves–spin class! There is no SoulCycle within reasonable driving distance or the like nearby but my gym offers spin so I need to make the effort to attend! This holiday weight gain (read: bloat) should be gone in no time and I’ll be back to my healthier and happier self!
6. Plan a family fitness event for my the GET FIT FAMILY
In 2014 my family participated and rock out during the Color Me Rad 5K. Sure, we do lots of active things throughout the year but the one that stcisk out the most for my sons was the Color Me Rad one! I want to do something just as fun and memorable so I have some planning to do. Any suggestions?
