Almost three months into the new year and this GET FIT DIVA, is rocking at her New Year resolutions and goals! As I type this, I’m multi-tasking—drinking a glass of water, getting my sons ready for school, and about to hit the gym for a personal training session followed by a much-needed session of yoga. However, some days I don’t have the time to practice a full session at home or at the gym.
Sticking to my resolutions hasn’t been easy but here are 3 tricks you can use to stay on track by incorporating yoga into your everyday health routine (including one important fitness must have)!
- Find the time – The great thing about yoga is that you can do it anytime. You can’t use the “I’m too busy” excuse when it comes to yoga. You can do a series of postures, along with breathing and meditation in under twenty minutes. Did you know you can practice yoga in bed? That’s definitely keeping it simple! You can get it done before getting out of bed. If yoga in bed isn’t your thing, find the time during your day whether it’s before the kids wake up, during your lunch break, or before going to bed. Try calming postures when you need serenity or more invigorating ones when you want to get past the 3pm slump.
- KISS (Keep It Simple Savasana) – Just five minutes of yoga can help keep you on track. If you don’t have a half hour or an hour, take five minutes to take a couple of deep breaths, some side stretches, and go on My Yoga on Gaiam TV for videos if you want a brief practice or don’t feel the confidence to make up a solo session on your own.
- Stay grounded during ANY time of the month – Some weeks are more hectic than others with work and family. Other weeks I have more on my plate (if you know what I mean!) when I’m feeling more tired, run-down, and depleted (emotionally and physically). I don’t want to work out at all when it is my time of the month (aka TOM) but somehow yoga helps me work through my TOM especially with stress relief and Stayfree Ultra Thin Liners are one of my fitness must haves during this time. I feel protected while I breathe deeply and practice poses that awaken my body while creating a sense of being centered.
Yoga has made me a happier person. A healthier person. I’m more committed to my goals than ever. By taking time daily to practice yoga, I am less stressed and less prone to over-eat. When I do yoga, I am becoming more flexible and reaching my resolutions and goals. Here’s to 2015 and being a part of the yoga-lution!
