Coulda-shoulda-woulda. How many times have you let over-thinking, procrastination or even self-doubt affect your decisions as you waited for the RIGHT moment? You can let your entire life pass you by if you think waiting for the right moment will make all the difference. Sometimes you have to make any moment be the right moment.
Last week, I was so excited for the opportunity to shoot with Stanley Desbas Photography. He is one of the best in the business and has shot campaigns for Monif C, Mynt 1792, Just My Size, and countless other brands. I had worked with him a year and a half ago on the Katie K Active shoot (where I tried–key word tried–to channel my inner Naomi) and he is an incredible photographer. During our last go-round I was so nervous and intimidated by the professional models on set. I let anxiety get the best of me. It was NOT my best but the shots came out awesome but I vowed the next time I would get better. I have been behind the lens several times since and I have progressively gotten better–more relaxed and assured.
But last week’s session was my RIGHT moment. I had the opportunity to shoot with Stanley and only had a week to get my life together to do so. Even though I didn’t feel fit enough, I said there will always be self-doubt in whatever size I am so why not just go for it?! There was no turning back and I decided to put in WORK. I gave myself a pep talk the morning of the shoot.
You got this. Own it. Love it. Enjoy your right moment.
And you know what? My shoot went off without a hitch. It was my RIGHT moment! The other model on set (who I gushed over because she was stunning) said I looked fab and couldn’t believe I was my age AND had two sons. With that added boost of confidence, an amazing makeup artist, encouraging and guiding stylist, and an incredible photographer that had my back the entire afternoon, I channeled Naomi Campbell + Diana Ross + Patti LaBelle + Josephine Baker +… you get the point. Every DIVA I admired, I channeled and I felt incredible. Every woman deserves to feel like that and I almost missed that moment! My shots came out beyond my expectations and I haven’t even seen the edited ones yet.
There will never be a time when all the stars and planets are aligned to make everything go perfect. Perfect doesn’t exist but RIGHT does. Choose your own right moment and go full throttle, leaving your over-thinking and self-doubt to the wayside.
Have you missed out on opportunities while waiting for the RIGHT moment? When have you seized the right moment and made it your own?
