Winter is here! Does your skin change with the seasons? Mine does. I get compliments often on my skin and some think I am a lot younger than I am (cheers to that!). Much is due to great genes (both my parents don’t have wrinkles!) but a lot has to do with an amazing skincare regimen and care by my aesthetician, Jennifer Puluse. Here a is a guest post from this talented, knowledgeable, and passionate skin care guru. Enjoy!
Let’s FACE it winter can be a drag, but your skin doesn’t have to be! With these 5 simple tips and tricks you’ll be on your way to flawless winter skin in no time.
Weekends at the beach are long gone but your sun protection factor (SPF) shouldn’t be. Not only does SPF provide protection from sun damage it also guards your skin from free radicals. Free radicals (pollution, second hand smoke, cold, wind, etc) can cause skin to be dehydrated and look aged. By simply adding a SPF to your daily routine you are protecting your skin. Luckily SPF is in a lot of moisturizers and even makeup. I recommend using SPF 15 to 30 every day for the winter months.
2. CC cream
Along with winter comes pale skin, which I know we all hate! CC creams are the perfect pick me up. CC stands for color and correct, and that’s exactly what it does. It evens out skin tone and texture. Cc creams are tinted and add just the right amount of glow to the skin without looking overly tan. My fav, and trust me I’ve tried them all, is Origins Smarty Plants. It has the perfect amount of color and gives the skin a flawless look. Oh and a plus…they have SPF in them!
Origins Smarty Plants has a color correcting formula that visibly perfects for a radiant, flawless finish. This fuss-free formula intuitively color corrects for an even, beautiful complexion. The antioxidant infusion helps neutralize skin damaging effects of city smog and pollution, while gifting the skin with vital hydration. It is formulated without parabens, sulfates, or phthalates.
Exfoliation is an important step in keeping your skin glowing. It takes off the dead layers of skin that cause blackheads, clogged pores, and dryness. You should exfoliate 2 to 3 times a week for a deeper clean, that normal cleansers don’t give. It is especially important in the winter since skin tends to be flaky and dry this time of year. Use a gentle exfoliater that won’t be to harsh on the skin. Jojoba bead exfoliators are my top choice because they help remove dead skin cells and are hydrating at the same time. My favorite is Get Clean by Clarity RX, it feels great on the skin and has a fabulous scent!
Clarity Rx Get Clean is a softening and smoothing facial exofoliator with finely ground bamboo. It delicately polishes away dull, dead skin, stimulating skin renewal for a fresher, glowing complexion. Jojoba beads further encourage skin cell turnover, while rosemary, calendula and cucumber soothe and calm irritations. Clarity is improved and skin texture is left refined and soft.
Between the cold air outside and the dry heat in our homes skin takes a beating. It’s important to keep your skin hydrated. The drier your skin is the more likely it is to show fine lines and wrinkles, so make sure you’re moisturizing every night. If you have oily skin stick to an oil free moisturizer to prevent the greasy feel and clogged pores. My favorite trick for dry skin is to mix a little bit of coconut oil into your favorite moisturizer. Coconut oil absorbs into the skin perfectly and is so hydrating. You can even use it as your moisturizer if you don’t mind the oily feel.
I love to put on a mask at night, light a candle, and sip on some tea (or wine)! It’s relaxing and makes your skin feel wonderful. Hydration masks are great for winter to help dehydrated dry skin. Try to do a mask 2 to 3 times a week. Hydration masks can be left on up to 20 mins. A little trick I do is wipe the mask off with a tissue instead of washing off with water. This way a little bit stays on and it keeps working through out the night. Follow by your favorite moisturizer. My personal favorite is Dermalogica’s Skin Hydration mask. It feels so good on the skin and has a nice clean smell to it. You will love it!
Jennifer recommends Dermalogica skin hydrating masque. It is a refreshing, moisturizing masque to remedy dry, stressed skin. The masque also helps stimulate skin’s natural Moisturizing Factor while lycopene-rich Tomato Seed lipids help restore skin’s protective barrier, enhancing moisture levels for healthier, smoother skin.
