I absolutely love when Deepak Chopra and Oprah Winfrey collaborate and offer people around the world resources to better their lives. I am participating in their 21-Day Meditation Experience, Shedding the Weight: Mind, Body and Spirit. Even though I will be traveling some of the time during the experience, I still believe I will get a lot out of the powerful meditations, daily messages, and tips for transformation. “Shedding the weight” is not only an issue for our bodies, but that we are also weighed down with emotional, mental, and spiritual burdens. Today is Day 1 and the focus is finding the lightness in your life.
Finding the Lightness in Your Life
Today we discover that we don’t have to struggle to shed our burdens – all we need to do is expand our awareness. In that awareness we find the inner fulfillment that is our true self. Yesterday solidified it. As I spent time with my family, I felt in harmony with myself. I didn’t feel rushed. I didn’t feel sad. I felt happiness and lightness watching my sons and husband interact. We are a great family and love spending time together despite our harried lives. So a day with no obligations is rare and as they get older and many not want to hang with mom and dad in their spare time, I felt a lightness I hadn’t felt in a long time. I hope my meditation practice helps to continue this.
Our centering thought for today is:
My struggle has ended. I am in harmony with myself.
That is a great mantra for me. What is a mantra? According to the 21-Day Meditation Experience Team, mantras are powerful tools to support your meditation practice. These Sanskrit syllables are carefully chosen to work with and empower the teaching of the day. As you silently repeat the mantra during meditation, a few things happen:
- You quiet your mind – Repetition of the mantra helps you move beyond your thoughts and access the stillness within.
- You experience deeper awareness – The mental vibration created by the mantra allows your mind to access pure awareness.
- You discover your true nature – With daily use during meditation, the mantra helps your body, mind, and spirit relax into their true essence – pure potentiality and happiness.
