Something new… Recently, I read an article that asserted that a successful woman take three evenings a month to do something empowering to her interests (take a new class, go out on a date by yourself) and something for career pursuits (go to a networking event, hang out or support a co-worker to be “strategically seen”). Seems hard? It shouldn’t be since it accounts for less than ten percent of your nights in a month. So when Brooklyn Active Mama told me about the Sound Off Soul Vinyasa Yoga class, I was all IN.
Sound Off Soul Vinyasa Yoga
I attended Sound Off Soul at the W Hotel – Union Square, which I stayed in last summer with the Mister for the Fitz & The Tantrums concert. Sound Off™ Soul is a vinyasa class that blends the best soulful house, afro-beat, neo-soul and R&B music.
Tonight we’re kicking off our newest yoga program “Sound Off™ Soul” @wnyunionsquare If you wanna get down (ward dog) with us, and flow to 60 minutes of straight baby making music! The music, curated by DJ Letty Love, was incredible and was a mix of old and new. It took me back to BBQs at my grandma’s house, my favorite old school jams, and when a live vocalist, Lulu Fall, started singing my heart actually leapt.
During the vinyasa yoga class, you wear noise-isolating wireless LED headphones. Sounds weird right? Yes, it did take a lot of getting used to. Um, hello big hair that seemed to get bigger because it was hot in thurrrrr! But it was so much fun and I needed vinyasa yoga like you wouldn’t believe. Being able to tune the world out and just rely on the instructor, Julie Serow, was a humbling experience. It takes a lot for me to be in the moment and that is why yoga is so important to my healthy living journey. Julie was excellent at alignment and fluid transitions in order to guide us safely in and out of postures. She gave us the option to create our own flow which is super important to me.
The Sound Off Soul Experience
I can’t wait to try another Sound Off Experience class. My intent for the rest of the year is to try something new every few weeks whether it be a fitness class, an extreme experience, or a new obstacle race so stay tuned!
