I have a confession to make…I love subscription boxes especially beauty ones. This is from someone who is natural (hair and makeup) most of the time. My idea of a “beat” is a little bit of mascara, under eye corrector, eyebrow powder and lipstick. After seeing ads and write-ups on the Essence Beauty Box, I had to cop the August “Fab & Fuss-Free” Beauty Box with my own ducats and see if it worth the hype. Plus I love love love Essence. Then last week I found out it will be discontinued. Womp womp.
Essence Beauty Box
The Essence beauty box touts five luxe beauty products curated by the beauty experts at Essence. August’s box aimed to be the “definition of effortless beauty” especially after “the summer has exhausted your hair and skin.” Ain’t that the truth! After our trip to Barbados (hello, sunburn!) and too many hair styles this summer, my beauty regimen needed a jumpstart.
So here is what was inside and my initial thoughts:
Skin & Co Roma Umbrian Truffle Hand Cream & Citrus Amaro Hand Cream – This smelled heavenly and it came on smooth. With natural apricot oil and hints of black winter truffle and fig, the Umbrian Truffle Hand Cream is my favorite of the two and has become a purse staple. I am not usually a orange and lavender fan so the other will be put in our guest room.
Sweetspot Labs On-The-Go Wipettes – Alright, with all of the wipes that are marketed for women’s “sweet spot”, I’ve never been a consumer. However post workout or during your period, sometimes you need a little something extra. Smells delightful.
Nudestix Pencils – Be still my makeup-loving heart. I can’t wait to try this shade. It is so hard to find a great nude.
Camille Rose Coconut Water Leave-In Detangling Treatment – My box included this hair product based on my beauty profile. I haven’t tried it yet but it smells divine. It combines coconut water with natural oils. I will be using this soon. The alternative for this product was the Oyin Handmade Hair Dew.
Eden Bodyworks Coconut Shea Cowash – Like the Camille rose, my box included this hair product based on my beauty profile with the alternative of the Hi-Pro-Pac Keratin Replenish Masque. When I did my big chop, Eden Bodyworks products were a mainstay in my beauty arsenal. The cowash is sulfate-free which is a must for naturalistas.
For the price ($15.00), Essence provided a very nice box with products from classic, indie, and Black-owned brands with a few not on my radar. I am still awaiting my free gift (I believe it was a scarf) but I contacted Customer Service and it should be here in 3-4 weeks. When I went on the site to inquire about my free gift I found out the box has been discontinued. BOO! I have since received the Limited Edition Box, which I can’t wait to show you all!
